Saturday in the Park 2012“Saturday in the Park” Vancouver, Washington’s 18th Annual LGBT Pride Event “Gateway to Equality!” Saturday, July 14th, 2012 11am to 5pm Esther Short Park in Downtown Vancouver • Start the Day with the Annual “Lyle’s Myles” 5K Fundraiser! Website: http://sitppride.info
Vancouver, WA—The Saturday in the Park Organization has announced that the 2012 edition of Saturday in the Park, Vancouver’s LGBT pride event, will be held on July 14th, 2012 from 11am to 5pm in Downtown Vancouver at Esther Short Park. The theme for 2012 is “Gateway to equality” celebrate the recent passage of gay marriage in Washington. Saturday in the Park has long been recognized as America’s “family friendly” LGBT pride event for its afternoon picnic inspired setting, drawing families and friends from across Southwest Washington State and the Portland metropolitan area. Saturday in the Park was launched as a response to statewide efforts in the early 1990s to ban discrimination protections for gays and lesbians. When those efforts were defeated, Saturday in the Park became the celebration it still is today. As proof of Vancouver’s rise as a thriving queer mecca, Advocate.com recently named the city the sixth most gay-friendly city in America, making it the top West Coast city for LGBT people. The 2012 edition of Saturday in the Park will feature musical and cultural performances, community groups and non-profit organizations, supportive local businesses, games and activities for all ages, a health and wellness center, food booths and a beer garden for adults.
The eventful day begins with Lyle’s Myles, an annual charity 5k walk/run in downtown Vancouver to raise money for Cascade AIDS Project, Martha’s Pantry and Global Partners for Development. The non-competitive walk/run event starts at 8:30am and is open to all. While Lyle’s Myles is a separate event, Saturday in the Park is working closely with the organization to ensure a seamless transition from the 5k to the festival.
